The Never-ending Case of Director Roman Polanski
In yesterday’s news on cnn.com there was yet another article about Roman Polanski and Los Angeles prosecutors’ attempts to have him returned to the United States to be sentenced for a crime he committed in 1977.
In that year, he pleaded guilty to unlawful sex with a minor – a very minor girl of only thirteen. When he realized that he could very well serve more jail time than what had been previously agreed upon, he fled the country and has stayed away.
Reports state that a media-obsessed judge was involved in the initial case and felt he had to send Polanski to prison. The victim, now in her 40s, wants the case to be tossed out. Many Hollywood celebrities are backing Polanski in an attempt to see justice.
Excuse me. Justice? Since when does having sex with a thirteen-year-old girl make the perpetrator a victim? Since when does a judge have to justify sending a perp to jail for having sex with a thirteen-year-old girl? Since when do we allow past crimes to be forgotten because the victim, once a thirteen-year-old girl, asks for it as an adult? No matter what brought the victim to her current conclusion, the fact is – as a thirteen-year-old girl she was in a non-consensual relationship with Polanski. He raped her. Period. I don’t care if she was Lolita incarnate. He raped her. And does anyone seriously believe he did it once with this child and never did it again with another? Come on. Men who want women stay with women, they don’t veer over the line and start seducing children. It takes a sick person to do that. One can only wonder what Polanski has been up to over these many years.
Too many perps get away with assaulting women and children. It doesn’t matter what their excuses are or if they had bad childhoods or were on drugs or whatever. Tough rocks. They committed a crime and they should do their time.
It’s my guess the Los Angeles prosecutors will never get Polanski back on American soil. And if he does do any time, it will be in luxury he damn well doesn’t deserve.
What do you think?

Because he is a famous director, does NOT excuse what he did. Anyone else would have been tossed in jail and would, no doubt, already be out by now having served his sentence. I don’t get why the hollywood community seems to be backing this guy.
What I think lies all in this much more intelligent analysis of the case I came across ages ago. Maybe you should have a look to inform yourself better. It’s so easy to cry and call it rape, when it’s not, no matter the age of the minor. But I guess you’re just one of those who will delete my comment right after – like all the rest of the blind condemners not even alive then.

I’m with you, Regina – so many in Hollywood do such good things. . .helping victims of natural disasters, etc. Why they’d line up behind this guy is amazing to me.
Nope, Marshal – I did not delete your comment. You have a right to your opinion. However, I do not need to hear anything beyond the fact that he had sex with a 13 year old. That’s rape. Period. She was too young to consent. And any adult male who chooses to have sex with a 13 year old has serious problems and should be in treatment, not fleeing his punishment.
