Little Boy Lost

The other day, I learned about one of the most horrific child abuse/murder cases I have ever heard. That’s saying a lot, considering the sickness in our society for the continuing assault and murder of women and children.
The case I’m referring to is that of Ethan Stacy, a 4-year-old boy, who was court-ordered to visit his mother for summer vacation in Utah. Ethan’s mother and father are divorced. His father was awarded custody and fought his ex-wife’s summer vacation plans. According to reports, Ethan’s mother fought –yes, fought – to have the child for the summer.
What happened next is beyond belief.
It’s reported that the abuse of Ethan by his mother’s boyfriend, Nathaneal Sloop, began almost immediately after the child arrived. Ethan, a four-year-old little boy was beaten by the thirty-one-year old Sloop. Ethan’s mother didn’t stop it. Unbelievably, she documented the abuse on her cell phone.
When she and Sloop decided to get married a few days later, they locked little Ethan in the bedroom, removing the doorknobs so he couldn’t escape. According to reports, they told police that they couldn’t chance taking him to the courthouse for the ‘wedding’ because someone might have alerted authorities given the child’s swollen face and the bruises he’d already sustained.
Imagine that poor child’s fear, his confusion as to why his mother was doing this to him.
After the ‘wedding’ the couple returned. What happened next is too horrific to detail. Suffice it to say, little Ethan died. To hide his crime, Sloop used a hammer to remove all identify features of the child and then he and his ‘wife’ buried her son in a remote area and concocted a story for police to get away with the crime.
In my opinion, there isn’t a punishment sufficient for these two. They aren’t people. They aren’t human. They aren’t even animals. Why give animals a bad name by comparing these two to four-legged creatures. Animals don’t behave this way.
Monsters do. Cowards do.
It’s almost certain they’ll get the death penalty. Even if they do not, there is justice in prison. One can only hope that they experience the pain, fear, confusion and finally the hopelessness that little Ethan did. And may they feel it everyday for the rest of their sorry lives.
Poor little boy. I pray you’re in a better place with love raining down on you throughout eternity.
You deserved so much better.
