CONTEST and guest blog with Wynter Daniels
Wynter’s highjacking my blog today and she’s offering her latest release Tropic of Trouble in a contest (more on that later).
For now, here’s Wynter!
Honey vs. Vinegar
My mother has a habit of being a bit thorny with sales clerks and restaurant staff, which has gotten worse as she has grown older. I cringe when I see her dissatisfaction building. I know the explosion is imminent.
I used to be less patient with people until I ran my own business for a while and had to occasionally deal with people who felt they hadn’t been treated well. And I’m not saying I won’t stand up for myself when I feel I’ve been wronged. But I’ve learned to embrace the opposite situation.
The times when service is really good, or someone performs their job even a little better than required, I am sure to give them an extra thank you, a bigger tip or even a note of gratitude.
After following this practice for a while, I’ve even made an attempt to turn on the charm when someone doesn’t meet my expectations. And you know what? The old adage is true – you do get more with honey than with vinegar. An unpleasant situation is way easier to turn around if the other party really wants to help you.
I’ve found a thank you note to someone doing a really good job not only imparts my gratitude, but it often makes that person’s day. Even a simple phone call to someone or even to their boss can work wonders. How great does it feel to know you’ve put a smile on someone’s face? Well, the knowing will put a smile on yours.

Thank you, Tina for letting me hang out here today. I am celebrating the release today of my first erotic romantic suspense, Tropic of Trouble from Ellora’s Cave.
Here’s a little about the book:
When Kelsey Ackerman’s assistant at her used bookstore is murdered, the police label it a botched robbery by a desperate drug addict. But Kelsey suspects the perpetrator was looking for a rare Shakespeare volume that someone unknowingly donated. Now a killer’s sights are set on Kelsey.
Jail guard Jason Jones only wants to protect her, but after suffering a controlling father and an abusive ex-husband, Kelsey wants nothing to do with the confident, hot sergeant. Until the danger becomes crystal clear, and the only man who can save her is the very man she can’t resist.
You can read an excerpt HERE or purchase the book (or any of my other books) HERE.
I will draw one commenter to receive a free copy of Tropic of Trouble.

Hello, Wynter – first off, I love your name!
Very nice blog, reminding people that there really is another side to every situation, and often times a simple show of gracious manners will change the entire day for someone. Well done.
Congratulations on your new release, it sounds great, and much success with all your books!!
Blessings to you, and keep smiling!
Always ~ Denyse
Thank you, Denyse! I can’t thank my parents for that name;-)
Hi, Wynter! I agree that retaining one’s manners really helps in just about every situation! It can be SO hard when my anger/annoyance meter is already buzzing, but if I can manage to be mature about it and stay calm and polite, people are much more receptive. And of course, I know that I respond much better when others are kind to me! There’s something to this practice of graciousness!
Congrats on Tropic of Trouble–it sounds like an exciting read for quite a few reasons! Looking forward to picking it up!

Hi Wynter,
I have to agree with you, I had two friends put themselves through college waiting tables and thanks to them I always over tip and offer praise when I get good service. Simple appreciation goes a long way.
Also I work for a codes enforcement department and you can only imagine what I hear daily. I try to greet eveyr person with a smile even when they yell at me. Letting them vemt and being sympathetic always seems to difuse the situation and allows me get to the job of helping them.
Happy Sales today. The book sounds great and I can’t wait to read it.
Thanks for coming by Fedora and Jenn. It can be so hard to stay cool in the face of angry people. Jenn – My son works in retail and must deal with unhappy people on a daily basis, too. I hear what he goes through and I wish I could be there to ask every one of those folks to take a chill pill! Must be even harder in your job – Bless you for being sympathetic.
Tropic of Trouble sounds very interesting. I’m definitely going to read it.
Please enter me in contest. I would love to win this book. It sounds really good. Tore923@aol.com
Wynter, I love the title of your book and I wish you every success with it. Sometimes the things parents really teach us isn’t what they intended. I like that you treat everyone with gratitude and respect–it says so much about your character.
Sarah
Thanks, Sarah. Very true – some might see being difficult as strong or standing up for oneself.
Thanks for the giveaway!
I’d like to be entered in the contest.

Hi Wynter, I’ve worked in customer service since I was 16, thankfully I was good at it and right away got an promotion to customer service expert, That made me feel good. I love working with people, I find even the crabby ones won’t be so crabby if you continue to be nice to them and treat them well. I love how it made me feel and the customers loved it too. They came back all the time. So I think it’s pays off to be nice. I’ve had several job offers from customers too.
Your book sounds right up my alley!! Congrats on it’s release!! I’d love to read it!!
I have worked in retail for almost 20 years and in almost every instance you really can help your situation with a little honey.
Congrats on your new release!!!
gigi
Thanks Christine – it’s good to hear that you work with people and still like them;-)
I agree, Gigi. But I honestly don’t think I would have the patience to work in customer service. Good think there are people like you and Christine who can do the job well.
Great post – I worked in retail for several years while I was in school – I was always more willing to bend over backwards to assist those who were pleasant with me.
Tropic of Trouble sounds good. Congratulations. Your mother and mine must be related. Several years ago we were at a restaurant and no matter how much the waitress tried to please my mother, it didn’t satisfy my mother. The waitress got a huge tip because we were so embarrassed by my mother’s behavior. I
Thanks, KC. I can understand that.
LOL Sheila! I’ve left big tips to compensate for my mom’s behavior, too!

Hi Wynter,
You are so right. I was a waitress in a large diner for years. You do and will get more satisfaction using honey. A thought I’ve always instilled in my children.
Congrats on your release and I definitely will be reading Tropic of Trouble.
