A truly disturbing Dr. Phil show. . .
Last night Dr. Phil’s show covered the on-going tragedies involving mothers and children because of the actions of judges in family court.
One of the most disturbing stories involved Judge Robert Lemkau.
He presided over the case of Katie Tagle, a young mother with a 9-month old son named Wyatt and her ex-boyfriend, Stephen Gracia. On Dr. Phil’s program, Katie said she told Judge Lemkau repeatedly that Garcia was threatening to harm their child and she wanted an order of protection against him and supervised visitation with Wyatt.
Judge Lemkau refused, stating that he thought she may be lying.
During the course of the problems between Katie and Garcia, he sent threatening emails to her, stating that he would kill their child. He stalked and harassed her. She brought evidence to court. Judge Lemkau either didn’t look at it or felt what Garcia had done wasn’t enough to keep the man from unlimited access to his son.
Katie was forced to turn Wyatt over to his father. She never saw her child alive again.
Garcia shot the baby then killed himself, just as he’d bragged to her, just as she warned Judge Lemkau. When confronted with the result of his poor performance on the bench – the fact that his actions led to the child’s death – Judge Lemkau, according to Katie, said that he didn’t have all the facts about Garcia.
How about the emails Katie brought to court and the protective order she was finally able to get against her ex-boyfriend? A protective order that lasted a whole seven days. And then she was on her own again.
You would think Judge Lemkau would have left town with his head hanging. Oh no. He’s filed for reelection. In his world, nothing’s changed. Wyatt wasn’t his 9 month old son, grandson, or apparently anyone important.
Thankfully, the citizens of Victorville, California where Jude Lemkau presides have had enough. They’ve picketed his court. And the DA – bless his heart – has filed against him and is determined to win so Judge Lemkau won’t do to another woman what he did to Katie and Wyatt.
